With everything going on this year, safety extends so much further than just security. As a property manager, it’s your job to make residents feel safe in their homes. Although safety is not something you can advertise nor guarantee, it is something that you can encourage and enforce through rules and regulations.

Remind Residents About Safety Procedures

It’s important to occasionally remind your residents about the safety procedures in place. Although you don’t want to have fire drills or alarm tests constantly, you do want to remind residents that they exist. Hand out flyers with the emergency evacuation routes, have maintenance test the carbon monoxide detectors, and put up flyers about safety procedures. Seeing the safety procedures in place will remind residents that their safety is essential and has been considered.

Put Out COVID19 Safety Procedures

Corona procedures are on everyone’s minds. Your residents surely want to know what actions or precautions you are taking to keep them safe. Rather than quietly cleaning and disinfecting, make your actions known. Residents will be happy to know that you are continually disinfecting the office and amenities. Although you may feel it’s not worth announcing, it will give your residents peace of mind.

Offer Amenities and Apartment Features that Increase Security

If you are looking for ways to upgrade your apartments or communities, focus on the things that will make residents feel safer. Apartment features like pre-wired security systems, Ring doorbells, or even deadbolts will remind residents that they are safe at home. You can even take this concept a step further by hiring courtesy patrol officers, building a gate around the community, or changing out the community keys to discourage previous residents from returning to the grounds.

With so many wide-spread fears this year, residents need to feel safe at home. Implementing the aforementioned tips can really provide people with peace of mind. Do you have any questions about the ways to make residents feel safe? Share them with us in the comments below.
