The multifamily industry is one of diversity and inclusion! We continuously strive to offer fair and affordable housing to all people regardless of race, gender, sexuality, disability, etc. Although the Fair Housing Act aims to legally include more people, inclusion is so much more than just a legal obligation; it’s the right thing to do. Keep reading to find out more information about diversity and inclusion in the multifamily industry.

Housing For All

Shelter is a necessity for all, and no one should ever be denied a place to live. Too many American citizens have to worry about finding a bed to sleep in each night, and the multifamily industry wants to help solve that issue. Housing can affect every aspect of a person’s life, from the ability to get a job to the stability to start a family.

Equal Opportunity in Advertising

Inclusion and diversity are essential in advertising. If your ads and flyers only show one race or nationality, it can make people feel excluded and unwelcome at your community. It’s hard to imagine living in a community when no one in the advertisement or flyer looks like you. Try to diversify your promotions to make everyone feel welcome and inclusive.

Building a Community

At the end of the day, your job as a property manager is to build a community where all feel welcome. From following Fair Housing guidelines to showing diversity in your ads, you must include all. When considering construction on-site, it’s essential to make your homes and amenities ADA compliant so that everyone can take advantage of all you have to offer. Remember, it’s not a community if everyone can’t live comfortably.

Diversity and inclusion extend far beyond Fair Housing; in fact, as a property manager, it should resonate with your values. Do your part to make your community fair, welcoming, and inclusive to all.
